All you need is one

At this moment there are 6,470,818,671 people in the world. Some are running scared. Some are coming home. Some tell lies to make it through the day. Others are just now facing the truth. Some are evil men, at war with good. And some are good, struggling with evil.

Six billion people in the world. Six billion souls. And sometimes, all you need is one - Peyton Sawyer

Glowing

Blake Lively is so much fun!!! (and lively!). Why does she always look this radiant? I guess shopping at Chanel must have helped :D

I love Blake Lively on and off screen.

Following photo shows Blake and John Patrick Amedori filming a scene for Gossip Girl. John plays the character of Aaron Rose, who will serve as a new love interest for Serena in Season 2.

Yes, yes... I love Aaron Rose too :D

I'm moving on, but...

I was four-ish. We went to a zoo. I saw a giraffe, and I wanted it. Mom said I can't have it, I cried.

Today, I saw a giraffe and I still want it. And I still can't. But I didn't cry. I took pictures of it.

I guess that's just life. We can never really get over something that we like but we can't have. We just find ways to get used to live without it.

A tale of teeth

It's been months since my first dentally related post. I know I should post more info about this topic rather than all the 'gossip girl'-ish posts but I can't help it. Posting something that I love is undeniably fun. But, this is fun too. :) Here I've got some really basic information about our teeth. Keep in mind, this is fun :)

1. Do you know that human only have two sets of dentition? If yes, good. But if your answer to this question is no, it's alright. Now you know. This is very important to note because some people might think that teeth will be continuously replaced once we lost them, thus not taking good care of their teeth. Unlike most reptilian, mammals (including us!) only have two sets of teeth that is deciduous (primary) and permanent (secondary) dentition. Around 10 months after birth, babies will start having their first tooth and at the age of 6 years old, kids will normally get their first permanent tooth which is the first lower molar.
2. Do you know how many teeth should an adult have? A normal adult should have a full set of 32 teeth. These include 4 incisors, 2 canines, 4 premolars and 6 molars on each arch. Yes, you may start counting now :) . Normally, at the age of 14 (given or take 12 months), one should expect to have all the permanent teeth in the mouth except the last molars(i.e. the wisdom tooth). However not all people will get all 32 teeth, some teeth can be missing. The tooth that has high frequency of agenesis is wisdom tooth followed by the second premolar.
3. Do you know that it can take years for a cavity ( the one that is caused by caries) to form on tooth? Yes, it's true. Caries does not just occur in a fortnight, it requires at least months before tooth starts to decalcify and form a cavity. So it's never too late, prevent it now while you can. There are many ways to prevent caries in addition to toothbrushing. This includes additional oral cleaning regime such as flossing and mouthwash, low intake of sugary and acidic food, and frequent sipping of plain water. However, toothbrushing is still the most essential measure, please do not attempt to skip or replace it with other types of oral cleaning. Toothbrushing does not only mechanically remove plaque or food debris from the tooth surfaces, but it also helps delivering fluoride to tooth structure enabling the inhibition of the metabolism of bacteria in our mouth. That is why fluoridated toothpaste is the most recommended one. My tip: Spit don't rinse after brushing. I know it sounds yucky, but try to do this before you go to bed. The fluoride that stays in the mouth help preventing caries formation during bedtime. If you can't do this, wipe thin layer of toothpaste on the surface of your teeth. This also helps in making your tooth stronger.
4. Do you know that one of the dentists' favorite food is chocolate? At least it is true for me :) (although I am not officially a dentist yet --> a budding dentist as my lecturer would call). It is not wrong to have a sweet tooth, as long as you know that it can be bad for your teeth, and your general health. Always eat in moderation, and try to have a bite of chocolate right after meal such as after lunch for example. If you read my post before, sugar reduces the pH in the mouth because oral microbes metabolise sugar and form lactic acid. Therefore every time we eat the pH in the mouth will be reduced. A pH under 5.5 will favor demineralization of hydroxyapatite (compound of tooth), and hence favor towards caries progression. Saliva has the ability to buffer the pH in the mouth, however it needs time to get oral environment back to the neutral pH. Therefore, throughout the day we will be experiencing fluctuation of pH in our mouth. Depending on the frequency of eating (and cleaning + other internal factors), remineralization or demineralization will result. That is why it is advisable to take that piece of chocolate that we've been craving of right away after our main meal. Hope it makes sense :)

Peace

I'm still here

It' s almost two weeks before my final exam and I feel like writing again (which much due to persistent prompt from an unknown party). Anyway, it's spring now in Adelaide and the flowers in my front lawn are joyously growing. In just two days, the ground turned to look like a flower garden (well not really, but almost :) ).

I know, very quick. My housemate and I was about to leave to school the other day and I was like "Whoa, it was like nothing on the ground yesterday" when I saw the flowers. Anyway, here are the photos of my front yard. The house next door is actually under construction so the air is a bit dusty, but I'm used to it :).

Pretty rite? Thank you in advance :)

Anyway, these giant trees in front of my apartment are also beginning to grow more oranges. I'm not exactly sure what type of orange they are but they don't taste sweet at all. I use them in cooking sometimes though and my neighbor made a pie once using the skin. Very tasty :)
And if you can see the row of bushes on both sides of the path towards the gate, yes those green ones - they are rosemaries :). Rosemary is said to have been a symbol of love and remembrance since ancient times. I'll make sure I bring back a piece of rosemary when I go home for summer holiday. And it is also great for cooking!

Another Brilliant one

I've got to tell you, I'm feeling this one :)
Katee & Joshua are so good, it almost broke my heart watching this.
The contemporary dance choreographed by the brilliant Mia Micheals, and used one of my favorite songs 'Hometown Glory' by young English singer, Adele, as the background. When you get three great things in one piece i.e. dancers, choreographer and song, you simply triple the greatness. Brilliant.

I don't have a secret

Actually, that's not true.
Literally, I do have secrets. But I don't have 'this' secret...yet.

This LG Secret is the latest phone in the black label series by LG. Featuring 5mp camera, durable (anti scratch) screen, plus the cool design (really slim slide phone - slimmest 5mp camera phone) make me drooling over this new phone. Literally.

In Malaysia the retail price of this phone would be around rm2000. My only concern is the battery life. I've heard lots of stories about how LG phone sucks because of their low battery life. Even few friends discourage me to by LG phone. But I really like it!!!. Should I buy it?

So you think you can dance?

I was never really into this show before, however this year I gave it a try.
This show started airing 2weeks ago here in Australia, and it's the 4th season.
For all I can say, I'm loving it.
And I fell in love with Katie & Joshua the first time I saw them doing the 'Hip Hop routine'. The careography was beautiful, and the dance was simply INCREDIBLE. ;)

I miss my grandfather sooo much

It has been almost 10 years and 5 months now since the last time I kissed his cheeks. It was a goodbye kiss, with high hope that we'll meet again in the Hereafter, with Allah bless. May he rest in peace.

It was one fine Wednesday afternoon, when I came home after school. My umi was waiting with a gloomy face. "Tok Ayah masuk hospital, jatuh kat kedai masa makan pagi," she reported. I was shocked. Being an eleven year old girl did not stop me from thinking all the possible consequences, but losing him soon was not one of the thought. "Umi nak pergi hospital kejap lagi," she added after packing sandwiches for me. I, who had to leave home soon for my 'Fardhu Ain' class nodded, and rushed to school. It was around 1.30 pm at that time.

My Fardhu Ain class finished early, around 3 pm. At the end of the year, most of the syllabus was finished and after saying goodbye to teachers and friends, I strode back to home. At home, Kak Long and my little brother, who at that time I called adik and was 4 years younger than me have already been waiting. "Mana umi?" he shoot his question. "Hospital, tok ayah sakit."

After changing my school uniform, I joined Kak Long watching an Indon drama, which I did not have much interest in but watch it anyway. My mind kept thinking about Tok Ayah's condition. My brother was playing, not far from the watching room. "Kenapa tok ayah masuk hospital Kak La?" I shrugged and then added " Umi kata jatuh masa makan, sakit dada."

20 minutes later, the phone rang. I was sitting closest to the phone, answered quickly. "Umi," I was so happy to hear her voice. Two heads turned to me quickly and they were anticipating to hear what was she going to tell me. I, for once never expected what umi going to say next is one of the saddest thing that could happen to my life." La..." her voice sounded so gloomy "Tok Ayah dah tak ada," right away the phone slipped from my hand and I heard myself screamed "Tok Ayah!". Kak Long was so shocked but she quickly took the phone from the floor and talked to my mom. She joined me crying over the lost of our beloved grandfather seconds later.

My grandfather died of sudden cardiac failure. His funeral took place after Isya', 29th October 1997. Although I knew at that time that he would never be around again, but his love and kindness would always be remembered. My tok ayah would always be one of the greatest people I'd known and loved.

Rest in peace Allahyarham Haji Mahmood Bin Ibrahim

Ouch! Why have I got a hole in my tooth?

Let's talk about something educational shall we?

Often I see patient and they complaint to me about the hole in their tooth although they have been brushing regularly as long as they can remember.
Let me state here, toothbrushing is not the only preventive measure for dental caries (decay)
There are many reasons why you still get hole in your tooth although you've been brushing consistently all this while
1. Your brushing method is not efficient - some people tend to brush more on their front teeth rather than concentrating on the back teeth. Most decay are more susceptible on the back teeth because of the tooth morphology (shape). Other people would simply brush the area that they can only see, and miss other surfaces. Here is the tip : be organize when brushing, say start from the upper right side of the mouth, then move to the lower part. from this method, you'll minimize missing tooth surfaces. Use small head toothbrush so that you can reach the further back tooth. Remember, normally the last tooth is wisdom tooth and you want to avoid any caries on this tooth by all means as the extraction of this tooth would be the hardest one.
2. You don't floss - some food from your diet will trap interproximally i.e in between your teeth. Brushing alone is unlikely to remove this as the brush could reach this area. Therefore, you'll need to floss, at least once a day. If you don't know the appropriate technique for flossing, ask your dentist or dental hygienist.
3. Your diet is high of sugar - although you brush your teeth every 3 hours, it is not sufficient if most of your meal is Mars Bar. High sugar food esp. the one in the sticky form lowers the pH in your mouth, and even if you brush the mouth will need time to buffer the environment. Overtime, if the condition continues, you'll likely get dental decay.
4. You drink carbonated drink/juice every chance you've got. This habit would also lower the pH in your mouth. Together with dental decay, you'll also easily get erosion, what a package!
5. You never go see dentist unless the pain is sufficient enough to make you awake at night. well, it would be too bad then :(. See dentist regularly, once in 6 months is recommended

Words for thought

I was chatting in messenger, and I got this from a friend, which I think gave me power to keep on going, for whatever hardships I face in life

"sekuat mana pun godaan yg kita hadapi, sekukuh apa pun cubaan yg harus kita jalani, sebesar mana pun kegagalan yg kita rasai, sejenuh mana pun hari2 yg kita lalui, jangan pernah berhenti berharap pada Ilahi, jangan pernah berhenti berdoa kpd Rabbi kerana harapan adalah masa depan, kerana harapan adalah sumber kekuatan, kerana DOA adalah pintu kebaikan dan kerana DOA adalah senjata bagi seorang pejuang yang beriman.."

Thanks Kak Nah :)

Fall in love

I fell in love with this girl from the first moment I listen to her song. It was November last year, I was searching for video clip of my favorite couple - non other than Lucas and Peyton. The song 'Bubbly' was the background music for the video clip. And rather than watching the couple desirably, I found myself locked to the beautiful background song. I instantly downloaded the song, and listened to it consecutively. That day alone, I kept playing the song in my computer for about fifty times. The two months followed, I must at least listen to one of Colbie's songs per day, that's how addicted I've become. Colbie is such a young singer and writer, with great talent and her songs are simply perfect.

Here are some of the songs I love and recommend you give it a try:
Bubbly
Battle
The Little Things
Realize
Feelings Show
Circle
Older
One fine wire
Magic

Confession of a Broken Heart

Yes, there's nothing wrong with your eyes. This is a confession. A confession that maybe years later I'll be grateful because I do this - or regret of - either or at this point, it is the most (possibly) right thing for me to do

All these times I've spent is not a short period of time. I was grateful with all the things I have in my life back then before fate chose you to fit in it. And trust me,it's never a wise decision, logically it's just a waste of every single second of my life, but my heart - my heart is just something that will never listen.

Well, I guess it's been a long and painful journey for me. It has aged me, not just physically but mentally and emotionally. I've learnt to keep the feeling down, so it doesn't show. But sometimes it does, without you see it (or you pretend not to see it).

Because of this long and complicated journey, my mind become exhausted, my body is tired, and my heart is broken, and there's not much energy left although the journey is still long ahead. I have come to this point which I call LIMIT. And I can't be this cruel to myself and come to think of it - yes, I must put an end to this.

It's time for me to go now, it's painful but I have to let go. It's hurtful but it's something that I should have done long ago. I hope there'll always beautiful life ahead for me, just waiting for me to step into it. And yes, before I enter the new door, I must keep the one behind close. So I guess this is a goodbye, this is the end, and I hope the door is closed - and never again will be opened.

And the new one is entered.

BFF

Friend is one of the most important people in your life. In fact, a friend can just simply be the most important person to you. They may come in any type of forms, they can be your brother, mother, the girl-next-door, your teacher or your desk mate. As I grow up and learn so much more about this life, I begin to see how hard for one to find a real friend. People who can be real friends are the two person who understand each other the best, and when you feel sad or happy you want to share that feeling with them. But the truth is, your best friend can be quite annoying sometimes. The best example that I can give you is myself, I sometimes do stuffs that I simply know would make my friends pissed off, just to test how much they can stand me. Simply from that I can tell how much they care about me. I know, what a bad girl I've been but then that's how I found my best friends. Sorry best friends :) Btw, the picture above showing Hilarie Burton and Sophia Bush who play Peyton Sawyer and Brooke Davis in 'One Tree Hill'. They both are best friends on and off screen. Yes, they are also gorgeous (nodding) :)

The on screen on & off bff Blair and Serena from the show 'Gossip Girls'

My friends and I in 5th grade, when the trick of annoying them began to hit me.

One of my very best friends comes in the form of skinny girl (at least that's how she used to be :) she's so gonna hate me once she reads this!) who used to be in the same high school with me but we weren't as close as we are today at that time. Luckily, fate brought us together and I guess we were meant to be best friends, and I'm grateful for having her in my life. Best friends forever yeah? :)

The story of love

Most of the things in life (yours and mine) are pretty much influenced by love. In fact some of the reasons why I'm writing today is because of the love that I have toward these following characters. All three pairs are my favorite couples from my favorite tv shows, and for the love that I have for them, I would like the share it with the world.

Gosh, aren't they sweet? Didn't I mention how love can be heartwarming? Seeing this picture alone can make me feel happy :).

Anyway, let me just briefly introduce them to you in case you haven't heard of them before, although I'm pretty sure that most people would at least know one of the cute couples here.

Well the first one is the picture of Lucas Scott and Peyton Sawyer from the series 'One Tree Hill'. They are actually my top favorite among those three, although I find it hard to say this at times because of all three couples are so damn lovable! :). Anyway, their journey of love is best described as full of obstacles and can be heart wrenching at times, but in the end you know that they are simply fated for each other. It takes me 3 whole seasons to actually see them together even though their feelings for each other have sparked at the very first season. I know, what a wait but it's all so worth it :) . Uncertainties, misunderstanding and third person play important part on the reason why it is so hard for them to tell how much they care for each other. There is still no ending yet between the two, but like one of the characters in the show said "It's an epic love story", I'm so optimistic that they are going to be together at the end.

Fingers crossed

Moving on to the second picture, they are the couple from the hit series 'Prison Break'. The story of this two is much more complicated than the first one, as they haven't actually had a quality time together (except in the clinic when the guy received an insulin injection from the lady). Why is that? Because Micheal Scofield is a convict and Sara Tancredi is the doctor who works in the prison. Ever heard of a doctor falling in love with an inmate? I know, pretty interesting. But in this case, it's rather appropriate because the inmate role is played by Wentworth Miller, I mean who wouldn't fall for this guy?? :) There's not many scenes of them together but yet people can just simply tell they are deeply in love from the way they look at each other and treat one another. Just sweet :) I guess their story just present another definition of love, how blindly the love is and trusting each other is the concept that every couple should hold on to.

What do you notice from the third picture?

A hot, hot, hot young lady.

The blonde, tall and fair girl is Serena van der Woodsen, an 'it' girl form Upper East Side. She nails everything that she involved in except maybe love until she met Dan Humphrey, a lonely boy that comes from not-so-Upper East Side family. The different socioeconomic background might give you a hint that things are not going so smoothly for them, but up to this stage they still manage to get back to each other. This popular series of 'Gossip Girls' present the story of romance in glamorous life and for a sweet girl like Serena, she deserves everything to be with a charming and kind-hearted guy like Dan.

As for me, I would love to have someone to love me in any kind of ways like these lucky ladies had - except maybe it kinda hard for me to be in love with an inmate.

Well, if he looks like Wentworth Miller I might re-consider.

No, mom wouldn't approve that :(
